English Friends Enrolment Form

The 'English Friends' Programme

Thank you for volunteering to take part in a cultural exchange with international students.

Please ensure you read the following information carefully, then fill out the Enrolment Form below.
We will be in touch with more details when the programme has been finalised.
Your role is to speak to the overseas students as much as possible and to encourage them to speak English. Please remember to include not only the talkative, outgoing students but also the less confident ones. Don’t correct their English too often, but every now and then is fine. Remember that you are representing the young people of Chester and we want the students to go home with a good impression!

You should not leave an activity or the students earlier than the time stated on the programme, unless you have cleared it with the Linguastay office. You and/or your parents/guardians are responsible for getting you to and from an activity.

For every activity, please make sure that you have the mobile phone number of the member of staff in charge, especially if you are travelling out of Chester for the day. These details will be found on the programme.

You will be paid expenses for each activity (the exact amount for each activity is indicated on the finalised programme). When you receive the finalised programme, please indicate which activities you would like to join in. If you later change your mind, or something crops up last-minute, please send us a text message so that we can cross you off the list for  the activity. Likewise, if an activity gets cancelled or we are oversubscribed for an activity, we will text you, hopefully at least 24 hours in advance. There may be some occasions when we have too few ‘English Friends’ and your cancelling at short notice would cause problems, but we would let you know well in advance if we were relying on you.

You will be paid at the end of the season, around 25th July. Contact us for an appointment and make sure you have your list of completed activities with you. You will not be paid unless you have kept a list!

Jenny tells us how much the hosting experience has benefited her 9 year old son. We're sure he is a future 'English Friend'!
